4 Online Marketing Resolutions for 2014

4 Online Marketing Resolutions for 2014

With a new year, now is the perfect time to re-assess what you’re doing for your business to encourage sales and grow your customer base. Having a website is great, but it’s not enough to just let it sit there doing nothing. Here’s a list of my top online marketing tips that just about any small business can do on a shoestring budget.

Firstly of course, if you don’t have a website – get one!

  1. Review your website content

Does it contain the key words and search terms people will use when looking for your products/services in Google? Does it sell your business? Is it easy to understand? Time to ditch the jargon and the complicated language. Write about what people want. It’s all about search engine optimisation.

  1. Revamp your social media presence

Having a Facebook page and a Twitter account is pointless unless you use it. With the best of intentions, it’s easy to get out of the habit of posting content on social media. Start afresh this year by taking 5 minutes to post something new every week, even if it’s just a link. Run a competition. There’s nothing sadder than a Facebook page with 20 likes and the last post from a year ago. If you really don’t have the time, consider hiring a professional to do it for you.

  1. Take a fresh look at your existing website

Does it still match your brand from a year ago? Does it still reflect your business’ goals? If you want even just small changes get in touch with your web designer and make it happen. Websites can look out of date quickly and if yours was built a while ago it might be worth a re-design.

  1. Try video marketing via YouTube

Consider making a video to promote your brand/business and putting it on YouTube. You’ll just need a web cam and have something to say – storytelling is everything. A video should be either very informative or very funny or shocking if it’s going to be interesting to others. Track the results through YouTube Analytics.

If you don’t try all of those tips at least make a resolution to do just one. My personal resolution is try video marketing. I’ll keep you posted on how it goes!
